On Sunday a group hit the streets of downtown Hamilton equipped with new technology to study the air we draw into our lungs.

The initiative called “Inhale” allows people to use laser powered air quality monitors that take a read every ten seconds while you stroll the streets.

The project is the first in Canada that encourages residents to find pollution hotspots.

Heather Marshall from the Toronto Environmental Alliance says, “There’s a lot of things that may be affecting our air quality at street level where people are walking, jogging and cycling, so we really want to make sure we understand what we’re breathing in.

After the walk, the group gathered to see how their data will be dumped into the computer program that points out the hot spots they hope address in the years to come.
